WiFi Enabled Digital Cameras
A WiFI digital camera uses
the same wireless technology a laptop uses to connect to the internet at a
café or bookstore. A WiFi digital camera can interact with all your devices on
your wireless home network, like your computer, TV, or printer.
Wireless hotspots are everywhere;
you can find WiFi hotspots not only in airports and hotels but at your local
cafe, bookstores and coffeehouses. Verizon Communications plans to equip some
of its more than 300,000 public telephones with the ability to offer wireless
access to the Internet. There is a growing amount of wireless home networks
linking WiFi enabled
computers, printers, video game consoles, TV’s, stereos, and video security.
This is why WiFi enabled digital cameras
will fit into our lifestyles so well, we are already surrounded by wireless
technology.

Some WiFi enabled digital cameras use
a WiFi card similar to the wireless card your laptop or printer uses others
will have an interanal chip that serves as a wireless card. The digital
camera’s WiFi card transmits the images via wireless technology to your
computer or other device on your network. This means printing a picture
directly from your digital camera without removing the memory stick, attaching
wires, putting the camera in the cradle or even being in the room with the
printer. But this also means being able to email a picture directly from your
digital camera or download the entire memory of the camera to a hard disk
drive every time the memory gets full, without leaving the photo shoot.

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-G1
is the first Cyber-shot model to include a wireless network adapter and it is
the first digital camera ever to use the new DLNA (Digital Living Networking
Alliance) wireless standard, which allows devices such as TVs, printers and
PCs to share content (including brands such as, Phillips, Pioneer, Samsung,
Toshiba, JVC and Intel). Although DLNA is new and there are few devices at the
moment, this standard would allow you to take pictures with a Sony
Cyber-shot DSC-G1, then immediately view them on a DLNA TV or print them
out from a DLNA printer, all over the wireless network without using a PC. The
6 megapixel G1 also comes standard with a 3x optical zoom, 2GB of built-in
